In Honour of Black History Month

Black history Month 2026: Honouring Perseverance and Progress
Every February, Canadians come together to celebrate Black History Month - an important time to recognize the remarkable achievement, resilience, and contributions of Black communities across the country. This year, the Government of Canada has annoucened the 2026 theme: “The Joy and Strength of the Black Experience.” This theme highlights the enduring impact of Black Canadians in shaping our nation’s cultural, social, and political landscape while honouring the creativity and perseverance that continues to inspire future generations.
The announcement was made in recognition of Lincoln Alexander Day, celebrated annually on January 21st, to commemorate Canada’s first Black Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. His legacy continues to remind Canadians of the importance of inclusive leadership and civic engagement.
Black History Month encourages everyone to reflect on both the triumphs and the barriers that have defined Black experiences in Canada - and to reaffirm the collective responsibility to advance in equity, representation, and justice.
